Minamata Convention

A global accord known as the Minamata Convention on Mercury was created to protect the environment and human health against mercury contamination brought on by human activity. Mercury in everyday objects including batteries, switches, different types of lighting, cosmetics, insecticides, antiseptics, and measurement devices like thermometers is covered by this pact. Additionally, it regulates the use of mercury in other industrial contexts, such as dental amalgam fillings and blood pressure devices, and requires its phase-out in significant industrial operations, including the production of acetaldehyde and the chlor- alkali industry.
