Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation(PPWR)

The EU's new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) aims to drastically cut packaging waste and boost the circular economy. Replacing a prior directive, it sets ambitious targets: reducing waste per capita, ensuring universal recyclability by 2030, and mandating recycled content in plastic packaging.

The PPWR also introduces reuse/refill targets, prohibits excessive packaging, standardizes labeling, strengthens Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) with eco-modulated fees, and restricts hazardous substances like PFAS. Entering force in early 2025, it impacts all entities placing packaging on the EU market, with provisions gradually becoming applicable.
